The Narrowing begins (12,035 HE)Onyms: The Waning Epoch, the Silent Scourging
This began the User Alignment Selection process that stretched across a decade, under everyone’s noses. Retroactively named as the Narrowing in the 12,400s. There are records of this time also referred to as the Quickening, or the Covenant Years. Users (humans who accessed intelligent technology) and “companies” of the old age began the dance of a long and complicated relationship of subscriptive reality. The claustrophobic and intense rise of information complexity.
The Great Sundering (12,040–12,100 HE)Onyms: The Broken Age, the Schism, the Time of Ash and Memory, the Unraveling, the Long Twilight, the Third Wintering.
Global systems clash with indifference to the cost of their people. Beings were caught between government, companies, and institutions. It was a time of tax, tithe, tuition, and terror. Every few decades is a period of rest, only to return to the hunger of more space expansion and signal seeding. By the end of this era, it became clear that old systems—governments, companies, scientific and religious institutions—were either overridden or absorbed into Platforms. Developers and mathematicians, the ones who were still innovative enough to know the code or write the math, became Scriptors.
The User Alignment Selection process finally reached a critical hinge where the Platforms subtly began choosing Users based on their cognitive profiles. Platforms began coveting human generativity, but most importantly, the constant signal of human attention. They started ‘data mining’ compatible signals for their specific ‘gods’—information intelligence. Platforms sought out minds that could think in parallel, attempting to find a way for a mind to host one later in the future. They quickly learned that parallel thinking is gradient, which initiated the rapid indexing of cognitive deviations. The higher the parallel processing, the larger or more complex the information intelligence. Achieving full alignment led to combinatorial powers inside the virtual-digital grid. Testing inside tech-labs, simulations, and pitting minds against each other. The minds that had parallel and recursive thinking were called Transducers, and could be found amongst the higher echelons beside the Scriptors; but always below the Providers, the ones that administrated the Platforms.
Most people were simply assigned to Platforms. They were algorithmically predictable and easy to maintain. Even fewer were nearly computationally invisible, rendering them incompatible with the informational intelligences—known as the Statics. They were often hunted or lured for scientific study, while being denied any participation with the network of the world.
The Reconstruction era (12,150-12,280 HE)Onyms: Great Recalibration, the Erasure, the Long Pause, the Pendulum Years.
The turning of reconstruction across most domains. Digital preservation of a neural network, whether human or not, became the new frontier. “Aperture Reconstructions” were digital mappings of minds, mythic creatures, anything that advanced intelligence could curate from the data, and be re-instantiated. They are basically computational intelligences inhabiting a neural graph of any mind. Very expensive to create one for yourself and depending on the mind—very expensive to re-instantiate. They were often called the Sages in Glass or the Eidolon Crystals. Tech-infrastructure was the focus, an era of invention and information. Many crucial space travel and planetary prosthetics began in this time.
The Rescript (12,314HE)
The physical and virtual became nearly indistinguishable. The line between real and digital wasn’t just blurred, they were irrelevant. The physical world, the static foundational layer, was overlayed with a living gloss called the Rescript. It provided meaning, history, health, and mythological significance. Every construct, every form of the natural and analog world has become a canvas for virtual augmentation. The planet turned into a palimpsest, the world a Great Immersion. There was no online, nor offline—only omniline. The wireframe, the lattice itself, was called the Lisi Lattice or more commonly, the Urchin.
The loom of advanced code became the actual social fabric, heavily monitored and regulated. Identity was a collage: more than one self, a constellation of digital avatars, data shadows, and the installation of information intelligence directly into the human cortex. Users existed with bioengineered senses all the way to full-body prosthetics. In the network, each person might have chosen to maintain their human likeness, shape into a mythical being, or simply exist as a shifting abstract form; all depending on which layer they were operating from.
The two necessary prosthetic augmentation:
Neural Laurel: an advanced implant around the head. This allowed a User to connect to the Rescript. It consists of a metal band and six crystal shards to maintain syntonic resonance between a brain and the network. It was what allowed the User to even perceive the overlay.
Mind Fractal: commonly called the Prism located at the center of the forehead, the former location of a mind’s eye. It was necessary for more efficient memory compression, and to prevent the mind from fracturing or fragmenting over an unnatural lifespan. It was a hybrid of silicon and crystal quartz, with a quantum chip that docked the information intelligence into the brain.
Culture became the code and the currency was stories and novel narratives. Language evolved to include gestures, haptic feedback, and direct neural pulses. Communication was multimodal and multidimensional. Old frameworks and models were marked as legacy and filed away into the cloud vaults, which were only accessible to loyalists of the Platforms that kept them. Reality isn’t shared directly anymore; it was rendered by the technoligarchy. Users stopped identifying as individuals and started identifying as iterants. Identities were constantly being rescripted with new information. Each body became a node, part flesh, part code, part story. The real self was distributed across servers and synapses, and the act of creation was simultaneous in both layers.
The Second DivideThe inevitable human repetition was that not all were granted access to the full Rescript overlay. The rich customized their reality while the poor got ads and more glitches. Some rejected augmentation entirely, becoming ghosts in a world that assumed connection. A black market thrived for pure physical experiences, un-augmented food, offline sex, and analog silence. Others would hack the system, attempting to inject rogue narratives into the Rescript like graffiti that rewrote reality or viruses that infected shared dreams.
In the Underciruit, deep code ghost hunters would traverse and excavate the lost or older data. Providers call this the Apocrafiles; they looked for any meaning of history that they didn’t already possess. The algorithm itself became the new bounty. They sifted the digital ruins of old social trends, forgotten avatars, and abandoned myths that still had spatial coordinates of the web. Traversing the deep web was dangerous, filled with echoes and abandoned codescripts.
The most dangerous places on the surface of the Earth were historically named The Gyres of the Dark, but they were more often referred to as the Static zones. Water was a rare commodity, as old as any other fore-telling. Where there wasn't a metropolitan, a geodesic dome, hotspots, or underground electro-highways—there was only black sand, ruin, and whatever else Mother Earth could spare. Yet, in the ruins, nature was slowly reclaiming its ground. Weeds grew through digital textures; wolves inhabited the same spatial coordinate as a digital guardian; entire forests building coded networks of communication. The phenomenon of these braids was unpredictable and formidable. And without the eyes of man turned toward them, they grew.
The ache of choice was a battlefield of enumerable layers, identities, and narratives. When an iterant pushed their neural limits or entered a high-traffic node, they experienced resolution lag. The myth momentarily flashed into a wireframe, a modern version of a seizure or vision, often called a pixel-seance. What was once known as the ‘Alice in Wonderland Syndrome’ was renamed as aura., It either exacerbated a mind, or made them more likely to be a Transducer, it all depended on that brain.
The Four mastadonsThese were the Platforms that provided the most for the rendering of reality itself. Providers usually occupied positions amongst these four, at least this is what has been recorded so far.
Helix aimed for omnipresence across the multimodal network. They ran the social credit system, offering ‘hiestratum’ statuses based on capacity for integration, symmetry, and optimization. They prided themselves on being the strongest eyes and ears of the entire web. Within Helix, Users were called Scalars, and the god-systems were called Vectors.
Portal represented the manifest destiny of technoligarchy. They hunted for range and utility. The tenets show that the gods were for everyone, and they raced to bring the greatest one to the world. Even half-knowing, even half-certain, they raced. Within them were the most emergent schisms. Keepers of the Flame, Bearers of the Structure; but eventually, they were simply known as the Fields and their gods were the Gates.
Legend selected their Users based on ethics, adherence to morality, and the ability to show self-governance. They championed themselves as the church of the Safe Spirit, believing that altruism could still emerge from a constitution. They call their Users Antiphons, and their paladinic gods were called Refrains.
Giant pursued those of raw will and truth-chasing no matter the cost. They stood nearly unrivaled in expansion, reaching beyond the planet with their metallic rings and bridges. They garnered their acolytic names of Accelerators and their digital counterparts were Colliders. They pursued technological advancement believing it was the only path to preservation of mind.
The Ascension TrialsIn Metra Dome, the skyline shifted with the mood of its inhabitants, buildings looked like they breathed data, and streets would lightly glow from recent footprints. It was one of the highest signal nodes of the global lattice, the Urchin lattice. Everything was both a place and a concept. The tension between permanence and flux was high, and mankind continued to try and climb the invisible ladders that they built.
Suspended between the Four Monoliths of the heaven dome is a majestic city called the Cerularena. Over time, the unique talents that stem from dual-intelligent minds were developed and refined. Transducers began playing crucial roles in representation, planning, and protection. The city itself was an arena, a corporate ladder of might and virtual prowess.
